Natural Building Course

We invite you to join us in learning and building as we create a communal eating and entertainment space in our community. This course is facilitated by Carrie (you can check out her facebook page HeARTh EARTh Art to see some of her work) and hosted by us, Khula Dharma. This will be a week long course with a combination of theory and practical skills.
The following theory topics will be covered:
– Design and plans
– Site analysis
– Comparison chart of building materials and techniques
– Understanding soils (sand and clay) – including a practical soil identification workshop
– Fundamentals of building
– Loads, compressive and tensile strength
– Passive Solar Design
– Earthen plasters and lime plasters
– Cob oven
– Earthen floors
– Rubble trench foundations
This will be accompanied by practical sessions including:
– a rocket stove
– earthen plaster
– lime plaster
wattle and daub
– adobe bricks
– eco and bottle bricks
– cob walls
– dung and linseed flooring
Cost:
Seven nights accommodation in our traditional thatch huts (two people per room) + three vegan meals per day + theory and practical course fee and online notes
= R4 000 (early bird special = R3 800 to be paid in full by end of June).
